Just a Frantic Fan I agree with the other reviewers about the quality of the dvd; It's very grainy to look at. Being that the film was shot in Paris, it would have been a treat to have seen it presented in wide-screen format. The story and actors were intriguing and up to par. Ford gives a good performance ( I've never seen him that frustrated or "frantic" in any other movie he's been in). Also, I don't think I've ever seen Harrison Ford show that much emotion to the point of tears as he did in this movie. As for Emmanuelle "Sensual" Seigner, what can I say except OOH, LA -LA ( I wouldn't mind being the president of her fan club). The soundtrack is still on my c.d. wish list ( although it is out of print). The transfer of this movie to dvd deserves 1 Star. The movie itself with plot, actors, soundtrack, deserves 5 stars. One of my favorite Harrison ford movies The movie Frantic, directed by Roman Polanski,is excellent. It stars Harrison Ford as an American doctor,in Paris for a convention, whose wife(played by Betty Buckley)is kidnapped while he's in the shower. He goes to the police and they really don't help much,so he goes out to find her himself. He winds up being helped by a pretty French girl named Michelle, who was sort of indirectly responsible for the kidnapping because she picked up the wife's suitcase by mistake at the airport.Emmanuelle Seigner plays Michelle, and does a good job.The rest of the cast, which I am mostly unfamiliar with,is also very good. The film has a great musical score by Ennio Morricone that really adds to the atmosphere of the Paris locations..Overall,this is a great movie, and though I'm not sure how well known it is,it's one of my favorite films with Harrison Ford. Much too sophisticated for average filmgoers. This film is a Cornell Woolrich, entirely American style of thriller set in Paris in the mid-80s. It never veers from its exceedingly well-written premise and is peopled with a fantastic cast that makes this uprooted American genre work perfectly in new environs. Ford has never been better, and although Singer isn't going to win any awards her situation is quite believable. This is a rare and unique film, a thoroughly modernized Hitchcock piece that I feel outdoes a lot of the "master's" films. It reminds me of another maligned film, Snake Eyes, in that it has been totally misinterpreted by modern audiences seeking explosions and mind-numbing action scenes. This is a classic thriller. Really fun. And for anyone who has been to Paris, it's wonderful to see all of the locations and the portrayal of the underside of the city. Polanski is a magnificent director and plays every scene perfectly. LOVE IT.
