Gang Tapes | Year: 2001 Directed: - Adam Ripp an honest, realistic look at thug life This is by far the most realistic gang movie you'll ever see.Very well acted,it seems so real it appears to be a documentary. The story follows a group of LA crips for a few days and shows their life style of theivin',ballin',and bangin'.The primary character is a 14 yr old wanna be that meteorically rises in status in his set through his blind loyalty, ability to kill, stupidity, and the gangs needs for a soldier to add to the thinning ranks of his gang.Unfortunately, this is a movie based on far too many of our youths (adults as well)day to day "jail or hell" lives. Real Insider Look Kudos to the research team on this documentary style thrill-a-minute movie. This is not your typical hope-we-get-it-right gang movie. I was very impressed by the realism, from the beat-down given by the recently (10 minutes) released inmate of the LACJ all the way to the various street justice scenes and not to mention the party scenes...all real stuff. This movie hits it right on the button with all aspects of street life survival...show your kids if they think this life is cool...most wouldn't last a second in East LA under these realistic conditions. THIS IS ACTUALLY AN OK MOVIE! A FAMILY ON VACATION GETS CARJACKED AND THEIR CAMCORDER GETS STOLEN. AFTER THAT, THE CAMCORDER IS GIVEN TO A YOUNG TEEN WHO RECORDS HIS DAILY EXPERIENCES IN THE STREETS OF LA. LIKE MUCH OF THE OTHER RECENTLY RELEASED GANGSTA MOVIES, IT IS LOW BUDGETED. HOWEVER, THIS IS A SUPRISINGLY OK MOVIE. THIS MOVIE HAS ENOUGH REALISM AND ENOUGH GOOD SCENES TO MAKE THIS A WATCHABLE MOVIE. ALSO HAS SOME UNINTENDED COMEDY.
