| Gary Moore - Still Got the Blues Band: Gary Moore Simply great - a classic among blues albums! »Still Got The Blues« became a classic among blues albums. The songs cover all the possible tempi og straight forward blues, always dominated by Gary Moores inspiring guitar virtuosy. In the beginning, »Texas Strut« was my favourite song. »As The Years Go Passing By« - probably the bluesiest song on the album - takes a lot more time to catch but ends up being a real favourite as well. Though in the end, the title track remains the masterpiece! It doesn't really matter if you buy »Still Got The Blues« or the follow-up »After Hours«. They basicly sound the same. And this IS brilliant blues music! Heavy rocker takes on the blues. No one wins. Well, I don't doubt that Gary Moore means well, and on the back of the late eighties blues revival this crossover effort certainly sold well, but, for all Moore's respectful hat tipping to his elders and betters, 'Still Got The Blues' sounds like an old seventies rocker who sure wishes he had the blues, but hasn't. ... But while Moore is a great guitar player, being a great blues musician is a whole lot more than that, and you can't just switch to it overnight. This is most obvious when he really cuts loose: you know you're listening to a top-flight, but unreconstructed, heavy rocker: large Marshall set to eleven - the blues it ain't. This isn't to say Moore can't be devastatingly soulful, but nothing here comes close to his beautiful single from the 1970s 'Parisienne Walkways'. Good but too heavy blues I admire Gary Moore and I like this CD. I find his songs very clever pastiches of Texas blues, EC/Bluesbreakers, Peter Green, slide and Chicago blues rather appealing. But, I don't think he really has the blues in the sense that give him half the chance he turns the Marshall up to 11 and plays like a heavy metal god - it is a little tiring on the ears. But, as his interpretations of what got him into playing the guitar in the first place this is a good recording. He just needs to calm down a little and take it slower. Still - he certainly can play!
