It S A Mad Mad Mad Mad World | Year: 1963 Classification: Comedy Actors/Actresses: - Ethel Merman - Mickey Rooney - Spencer Tracy - Milton Berle - Sid Caesar Mad about Comedy? Watch This! In the days of epic films, director Stanley Kramer wanted to bring comedy to the list. He employs every comedic actor in Hollywood at the time of the shooting (there are many, many cameos throughout the film: Jack Benny, Buster Keaton, Don Knotts, Carl Reiner, Zasu Pitts, Paul Ford, Andy Devine, Joe E. Brown, Ben Blue, Jim Backus, Sterling Holloway, Edward Everett Horton, etc. My personal favorite is the Three Stooges as firemen, waiting for the plane to crash...that one brought me to the floor). The plot has been told so many times that it's now an American icon, like James Bond. It's been parodied by the Simpsons, Saturday Night Live, and Mad Magazine. "Just look for the big 'W'. Then you'll find all the money in world...just waitin for somebody to come along, and dig it up." So Jimmy Durante tells the group who finds him before he 'kicks the bucket'. The rest of the movie is a physical farce to see who gets to the money first (not unlike the plot of a film that just opened recently!). Many stand outs include: Dick Shawn, Jonathan Winters, Terry-Thomas, Buddy Hackett, Phil Silvers, and Milton Berle were all brilliant comedians in their day...and this is some of their best work on film. Very long, but worth the journey. Released in 1963 and originally shot in Ultrapanavision for Cinerama. Look for the restored 3 hrs and 8 min. Roadshow version with all the restored footage. Nominated for 6 Academy Awards. And remember, just look for the big "W"...you can't miss it! a wonderful chase of comedy the movie is great it has a lot of stars in in it spencer tracy was the man and milton berle sid caesar edie adams ethel merman johnathan winters mickey rooney buddy hackett phil silvers dorothy provine jimmy durante dick shawn the 3 stooges norman fell don knotts buster keaton peter falk eddie rochester anderson carl reiner and just about everyone the film is directed by stanley kramer it's about 3hrs and 2 mins long you can get it from hollywood's blockbuster's record town the wiz borders media play wal mart's and kmart's anywhere you gonna buy it at and it's a fun film with laughs suprises danger and fantastic scenes like the money being burried under a big W in santa rosita state park the hardware store sequence was the one that people never seen before and it was amazing a fully restored film will be history it will be the best movies of all time for the millenium and it will always be remembered i gave it 2 big thumbs up rent or buy this movie right now peace i'm out It's a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad DVD I would give this DVD 5 stars if all the movie was here, but it isn't, hence 3 stars. There's no excuse for this considering that no major restoration has been attempted here, the storage capabilities of DVDs are huge, and MGM has already released the full-length movie on VHS. The deleted scene feature is a mess. Watching the scenes seperately is tedious and not much fun. The least they could do would be to put the deleted scenes in the order that they appeared in the original film. The third and fourth scenes appear to be exactly the same as do others later on. Sometimes the scene appears the same only zoomed in. Others scenes have no sound. Some of the last scenes go on and on up to 10 minutes and contains everything that is included in the feature except for very minor snippets of dialogue. Sometimes you can't detect anything new, like in the money dividing proposal scene. I can see why MGM would want to keep their pristine 35mm print whole and transfer that to DVD but perhaps they should have included a 2nd disc and a 2nd version that patched together all the missing scenes, no matter what condition, and reconstructed the film as best as they could to the longest originally released version.
