La Femme Nikita | Year: 1991 Classification: Foreign Film - French Actors/Actresses: - Luc Besson - Jean Reno - Anne Parillaud - Bridget Fonda The Anti-Eliza Doolittle Remember in "My Fair Lady" when Rex Harrison transforms flower girl Audrey Hepburn into a sophisticated member of higher society? Well, that's the same premise behind director Luc Besson's "La Femme Nikita" - only this time around the object of the metamorphosis is turned into a professional assassin. Anne Parillaud plays a troubled drug addict who attempts to rob a drugstore along with some fellow junkies. The robbery goes horribly wrong and she kills a police officer in the melee. The courts sentence her to death but her execution is faked and Nikita is shipped to a secret government training center where she is slowly programmed to kill. Nikita complies with her new role in life until she meets a grocery store clerk and falls in love with him. The onslaught of new emotions complicate matters and Nikita must choose whether to follow her current path in life or carve out a new one for herself. Parillaud is exceptional in the role of Nikita. She gives a performance that is both feral and touching at the same time. There are also welcome turns by Tchéky Karyo, Jeanne Moreau, and Jean Reno which enhances the film even more. If there's anyone out there who doubts whether a solid action film can be made with a female lead, then that person should just take a look at La Femme Nikita and all doubts will be erased. A cut above the typical Action Yarn! This is a stylish film from french director Luc Besson. The leggy Anne Parillaud gives a star-making performance in the title role, she makes Nikita a complex, multi-layered character, she smoothly crosses the lines between violence and tenderness. The soundtrack is perfect and sets the tone for the uniquely crafted action-suspense sequences. Much more intelligent than the typical action movie, but it is also a fascinating character study of a unique nature; the fact that one mistake in Nikita's life can ruin her chances of having a normal life in the future and how it breaks up her love relationship is not the kind of sub-plots that you put in an action movie, yet they are necessary and well-done. Extras: spot 'Catherine' from Truffaut's 'Jules And Jim'. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film an 8! Nikita After a bloody shootout at a pharmacy where all of her gang memeber friends are killed, Nikita (Parillaud), high on drugs, kills a policeman in cold blood and is captured and judged for the murder. However, instead of the gas chamber, she gets recruited to a top secret government agency to be trained as an agent. At first, she's confused with the situation, but soon enough she's back to normal, not ca sed-captioned Buy La Femme Nikita at Amazon.com Buy posters at Allposters.com Jamster - the latest ringtones for your phone! ![]() Search with Walhello on the Internet on La Femme Nikita Search with the Priority Search Engine on La Femme Nikita This page in other languages: Suomeksi | Nederlands | Deutsch
