Beauty Queen With Bullets
Tough talking FBI Agent Gracie Hart, (Sandra Bullock) goes undercover as a contestant in the Miss United States pagent, in order to foil a plot that threatens the lives of those involved Grace is not exactly refined. Manners expert Victor Melling (Michael Caine) is called upon to transform her into a believable canidate to win. Meanwhile, her partner Eric Matthews (Benjamin Bratt), has to stick close by to make sure she stays out of trouble. Miss Congeniality could have been a complete disaster. Instead, thanks to Bullock's abillity to be able to laugh at herself, and thus not take herself too seriously, the film works. The script is filled with almost every fish out of water convention you can think of, and yet Bullock pulls it off. Michael Caine is also very funny as Melling, as are William Shatner and Candice Bergen, as the pagent host Stan Fields and coordinator Cathy Morningside. While not as laugh filled as my neice would like to say it is, there's enough here to enjoy, even if the "mystery" of the plot isn't all that tough to figure out. Director Donald Petrie keeps everthing resting on Bullock, and as I said earlier, she's ultimately the reason to stay tuned The DVD has 2 featurettes on the making of the movie. Each of which, also contains 3 deleted scenes between them. All I can say is that the cuts were chosen wisely by Petrie. There are 2 audio commentaries on the disc. The first with Bullock and Co-Writer Marc Lawrence, is ok It offers less of a perspective on the film per se`and is more about two friends joking with each other. The second track with Petrie offers more on how the film came together. Notes on the cast and crew and the theatrical trailer top off the extas Miss Congeniality is a better than expected comedy, I would recommend it, especially if you are a Sandra Bullock fan
MISS CONGENIALITY ~ Awesome Movie!
I love this movie! Why? Because, for one, Sandra Bullock is absolutely great in this funny movie about a cop (FBI Agent, whatever) who joins a beauty pagent 'Scholarship Fund' to go undercover and find the an infamous killer. I just got the DVD the other day and love the hilarious out takes and great never before seen footage. I think I've now watched it about five times in those two days and, as pathetic as this may seem, plan on watching it again real soon. Sandra and Michael Collin's screen relationship is completely charming, their scenes becomming the main reason to watch this movie. They have a great chemistry, as do Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt, whom the movies love story centers around. I ain't gonna tell you anymore, but just to watch out for Candice Bergan and William Shatner's great partnership in solving the crime, well sort of... I love this movie because it focuses on what great movies are about. Being fun and all around entertaining. Five Out Of Five.
Miss Congeniality
Miss Congeniality DVD ~ Sandra Bullock is not the next idea for the noble peace prize. Then why bother with to much pretense. The movie is fun, francy free and void of social commentery which is nice.
