Mediocre remake of Thunderball

I remember watching this film several years ago, and I detested it. Recently I viewed it again, and while I found it is somewhat entertaining, 'Thunderball', one of the best Connery films, is still far superior.
To start, Sir Sean Connery does look a bit old for the part, but still gives a fine performance. Kim Basigner is passable as Domino, and Fatima Blush ( the villainess role, played better by Lucianna Paluzzi in the original) , while somewhat overacted by Barbara Carrera, she at least manages to be memorable. One of NSNA's biggest flaws is Klaus Maria Brandaeur as SPECTRE agent Largo. He has none of the menace or charisma of Adolfo Celi in the original, and does not come off as a very convincing villain. The other chief problem is that the movie manages to be both inconsistent and overlong. The action sequences range from decent (the shark diving) to almost abysmal (Health spa, motorcycle chase). Worst of all, the spectacular, climactic underwater battle in 'Thunderball' is replaced by a boring gunfight. And for every enjoyable scene (the cigarette case gag) there is a stupid one to complement it (the childish videogame duel). I don't think it was necessarily a bad idea for the screenwriters to veer away from the traditional Bond games (cards, etc.), but a videogame! Couldn't they think of something better?!?!
Overall, NSNA is not a bad film at all, and certainly is watchable. However, the inevitable comparisons that come with remakes to their originals do weaken the film.

The best Bond film amongst them all

To me this is my favourite Bond Film, with My favourite Bond, Sean Connery, he has definitely made a great comeback, better than the rubbish 'Diamonds are Forever' where he was overweight and look slightly bored throughout. Some people critizise him for looking old, but you have to remember that Roger Moore at this stage was too, and he finished his last film at 58 years of age.I prefer this Largo to the one in Thunderball, this one is more smug and sarcastic, a bit like Bond in a way. Barbera Carrera is absolutely gorgeous and sexy as Kim Basinger is too. It is a shmae there isn't any Gun Barrel sequence or Bond theme, but the theme song by Lani Hill is catchy and the starting sequence where Bond comes to rescue a beatiful hostage is great. The climatic scene clould have been better but still there are very many memorable scenes, like bond's Fight with Lippe in Shrublands, very well directed, and of course the Motorcycle chase. This film is much better than some of Connery's earlier ones such as Dr No, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds are Forever and even Thunderball itself. Connery can still do it at 52, who knows he may yet return as James Bond. We'll have to wait and see. This is a film you can see over and over again and i hope it will be made official. Both Connery and Moore have done 7 Bond Films. Do not forget this film should be loved by everyone Bond Fan, don't be put off because it is made by another company.

Not Bond

I pretty much agree with everyone else about this movie....but did you know that this is NOT an OFFICIAL James Bond movie? It is not part of the series. Need proof? Just search for any James Bond CD's in the Music section of Amazon.com and look through the playlists of the Theme Song CD's. Never Say Never Again is not on any of the lists. That's why this movie seems like a duplicate. It is a cheap knock-off of Thunderball.
