Rush Hour | Year: 1998 Classification: Action Country: USA Language: English Directed: - Brett Ratner Actors/Actresses: - Jackie Chan as Lee - Chris Tucker as James Carter - Tom Wilkinson as Thomas Griffin/Juntao - Tzi Ma as Han Jackie Chan in what has to be his best movie to date Wonderful acting and superb direction both from the man - Mr. Chan. Performing all of his own stunts in his new film, one has to wonder why he doesn't spend longer in a hospital treating his injuries than filming. Rush Hour's basic plot is that the President's daughter has been kidnapped, and so Chan and Chris Tucker have been assigned to deal with it. What follows is 100 minutes of pure classic martial arts. If you loved this film, I recommend you rent some of Jackie Chan's earlier films. Rumble in the Bronx is a great film, as is Mr. Nice Guy and Rumble in Hong Kong. Bring on the next blockbuster from the Far East! Spectacular Rush Hour starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan is the new breed of all action packed and humorous police films. This film will keep you laughing from start to finish. Chris Tucker is too funny for words and Jackie Chan still has the quickest hands of any martial artist I have ever seen-other than the great Bruce Lee. It is a great story of how two cops from two different worlds and with two completely different personalities join up under the premise of steering clear of an FBI investigation involving the kidnapping of a Chinese dignitary's daughter. Of course, Detective Carter (Tucker) eventually fails in his attempt to keep Inspector Lee (Chan) out of the investigation. The two, however, ultimately bond and join forces to crack the kidnapping case without the help of the FBI. Rush Hour is full of explosive action and comic wit. I especially enjoy the feature on this DVD that allows the viewer to see those scenes that were deleted from the film and the feature that allows you to jump to a particular scene. Rush Hour is a must have for all movie lovers. Kudos!! Americanised Jackie The DVD itself is great, audio and visual, plus the bonus features. But I have some reservations about the movie with Jackie in it. It seems more like an American action movie than a Jackie Chan movie. Don't mistake me - I liked the movie, though Chris Tucker is very annoying. His voice sets my teeth on edge. (I prefer Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon, his humour is more my style). Jackie also seems very toned down, showing little of what makes him great in Asia. After seeing his Hong Kong films (especially his Police Story and Project A series and lately Accidental Spy) this movie does not compare. (And they STILL didn't let him sing! And I hated his hair style!) After reading Jackie's book "My Life in Action" I understand why the movie wasn't quite as good as I was expecting (action-wise). He had very little control of the action and stunts. This is usually what makes Jackie's films so "special", though as he is getting older it makes sense that he does not take so many risks. So though it is a good film to watch and enjoy I still don't consider it a real "Jackie Chan film!" I have heard Rush Hour II is better as much of it was made in HK - looking forward to seeing it.
