I always wanted to be kelly kopowski...

I grew up loving Saved by the Bell. I wanted to be just like Kelly because everyone loved her, she was the head cheerleader, captain of the volleyball team, and also Homecoming Queen. Who wouldn't want to be her?! Anyway, I absolutely love this show. It's on very early in the mornings and I set my VCR to tape it each and every morning. If it was out on DVD, I wouldn't have to worry about whether it will tape or not every morning and be able to play it over and over again and watch each episode I would like to see at that moment. Saved by the Bell is a show that every kid who grew up in the 90s can relate with and also loves the show.

Saved By the Bell is finally coming to DVD

At the time of this writing (6/13/03), I have learned that the complete first and second seasons of Saved By the Bell (don't count on the "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" episodes as the first season) are coming to DVD in one Box Set from Lions Gate Home Entertainment on September 2nd, 2003. The other seasons will likely follow. Cover art for the box set is currently available at Lions Gate's website with few details as of yet.
I, for one, have been waiting on baited breath for this show to hit DVD for a couple years now. With the recent surge in popularity of television series' on DVD, this one seemed like a no-brainer despite the regular syndicated airings on stations like TBS. The first and second seasons are uproarious and include such gems as:
"King of the Hill" - The first episode of the series (excluding "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" episodes), in which AC Slater moves to town and gives Zack Morris some competition for Kelly Kapowski.
"Jessie's Song" - We all know and love this 'serious' episode, in which Jessie gets addicted to caffeine pills to stay awake. The laughs hit a fever pitch when Jessie belts out: "I'M SOOOO EXCITED! I'M SO EXCITED! I'm... so... scared" and begins to sob.
"Running Zack" - In order to stay on the track team, Zack must enlist the help of a Native American tutor who teaches him much about his heritage.
"The Prom" - Kelly's father loses his job just before prom, prompting her to cancel her prom date with Zack.
"Save the Max" - When the gang discovers a radio station in Bayside that hasn't been used since Belding attended high school, they revive it to help save The Max from closing (Max's final appearance on the show). Featuring Screech's impeccable Al Bundy personation.
Here's the complete episode listing for the set, as reported by the official site for the DVD, ...

Unfortunately, it appears the Lions Gate is going to place the episodes in the order that they originally aired on NBC. While this would be okay for most shows, it isn't for this one, whose airing order was nonsensical at best. For instance, episode 16 of season 1, "King of the Hill", is actually the series first episode, which introduces us to AC Slater as the new kid in town as well as marking the first appearance of Kelly and Jesse. Also, at least one episode from either season 1 or 2 (I can't remember which) wasn't aired until midway through the LAST season and as a result will not be included in the this collection! Still, it's better to have these episodes out of order than not at all. And you can always print out an episode guide that lists the shows in production order (the order that makes sense) and then skip around the DVDs to watch them in order. Just don't miss this one.

"I'M SO EXCITED!"

This is the best news! Saved by the Bell is such a great show and I am so happy that somebody finally realized that they need to release it on DVD! It has always been my favorite show and I hope that they release every single season on DVD. It will be so special for all of us who love it so much. This show has been very important to me because it was always so funny and had such positive messages. I find myself trying to watch it whenever I can. I hope that more people will find this show and enjoy it just as much as I do...
