Simply Irresistible | Year: 1999 Directed: - Mark Tarlov Actors/Actresses: - Sarah Michelle Gellar as Amanda - Sean Patrick Flanery as Tom - Amanda Peet Light & Sweet Romantic Comedy/Fantasy Every couple of weeks or so, I go out & rent what I term chic flicks or "high school" flicks that I just KNOW my husband will never watch with me. (We both love action/sci-fi so that's what we usually watch together.) I almost didn't pick this one out but I like Sean Patrick Flanery. I'm so glad I did. Yes, it's light, not deep, but there's humor and sweet romance that remind me of the more lighthearted romantic comedies of yesteryear starring Cary Grant. Don't get me wrong - this is definitely a contemporary version of that genre. It's just that most contemporary light romances (She's All That, etc...) are SO fluffy and loosely written that not only are the endings very predictable, but every individual plot twist is VERY predictable also. I was pretty sure how this movie would end but had no idea how the characters would arrive there and was delighted by their 'journey'. I liked it so much after renting it, I wanted it in my permanent video library. I put it on my wish list & got it for my birthday. If you're not looking for a deep, dark, heavy, philosophical morality play but would like to pass an light but entertaining evening watching a movie that makes you chuckle in places and makes your "toes curl" in romantic delight, buy this flick. Simply Magical Simply Irresistible may not have done well in the box office, but that certainly doesn't mean that this film doesn't have any charm. Just because a movie doesn't find a proper following doesn't make it any less charming, in my opinion. Simply Irresistible is one of the best movies I've seen that hasn't had much viewership. It's fun, sweet, romantic, and just simply enjoyable all the way through. This movie certainly boasts a top-notch cast that is led by the wonderful and amazing Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sean Patrick Flanery. Amanda, played by Sarah Michelle, starts off as an awful chef but almost magically turns into a wonderful one overnight. She then begins falling in love with Tom, played by Sean Patrick, who is the owner of a popular department store. Simply Irresistible tells a wonderful and romantic story of how scary falling in love can truly be and how wonderful it can be all at the same time. If you're in the mood for a light, romantic comedy, then I highly recommend this movie. Light and Sweet Film Fare This is a sweet film about love and magic that is an old style film with a lot of charm. It is the kind of film made in the '40s that hopefuly will find more of an audience on DVD than it had at the theatre. Sarah Michelle Gellar is sweet and wonderful as Amanda, trying to run the restaurant her mother left her and which is about to go under.<BR> Sean Patrick Flanery is the executive in charge of opening the large upscale department store who stops in and falls under her spell through her cooking, which has suddenly taken on "magic" properties. The magical spell of this film is how much we enjoy it's simple and quietly romantic story. Gellar and Flanery are perfect as they slowly come together as a couple in spite of the obstacles.<BR> This film is charming and romantic and will leave you feeling good about the "magic" of falling in love. If you like your romantic fare light and sweet then this is for you. Roger Ebert said this film was "Enchanting and Romantic" and I have to agree. Simply Irresistible is Simply Charming....
