Snow Dogs | Actors/Actresses: - James Belushi - James Coburn - Cuba Gooding Jr - Graham Greene - Nichelle Nichols - Cuba Jr Gooding - Brian Levant Pretty Good. I can't believe this movie got so many bad reviews just because it's not in widescreen. Sure, it's better without the black bars...but we're supposed to judge the MOVIE, not the format. Anyway, I managed to watch the DVD WITHOUT black bars. How? By pressing the "full screen" button on my computer. (Duh, genius.) Cute & Pretty Good. (Duh, genius.) My biggest problem with this movie is that the dogs are really not the stars, as was implied in all the publicity. Anyone could have expected a funny movie with talking dogs. This is NOT that, so please, don't expect it! The dogs say a few lines, and ONLY the ones seen on the commercial, and that's all. It's unfair to advertise with the dogs sitting in the beach chairs. That doesn't even really happen. Ted (Cuba Gooding Jr) just dreams it. So that was my one complaint. Other than that it was an enjoyable film. Never laugh-out-loud funny, but a worthy Disney picture. Ted, a Miami dentist, finds out he's adopted and goes to find his parents in Alaska. His mother died and left him her sled dog team. His father is a legendary scary white guy named Thunder Jack (Coburn). I don't see how there is any bad acting in this movie. Not the best ever. But not bad. And there's a girl named Barb whom Ted falls in love with, and blah blah blah. The ending is typical happy Disney fluff that's unrealistic; in real life Ted would have probably died ten times over. But it's cute and, again, enjoyable. The song "Time, Love, and Tenderness" plays while he gets married. Nana the border collie who wants to be a lead dog is really adorable. (She gets her wish, too.) She also becomes a mother when Demon, the ornery husky, finally eases up and starts liking everybody (especially her.) All in all, you should see "Snow Dogs." It's a good family film. Thunder Jack enters the Kondic race and despite blizzard conditions moves out in the front. Gooding finds Thunder Jack refuged in a secret cave which he knows about, and Jack has been stranded by knee injury. Gooding comes to his rescue and wins the loyality of the lead pack dog by biting its ear; and the affection of a parental Jack. The dogs are bounding with energy and these thoroughbred dogs bring the energy of the race to the big screen. The sudden deviation on the high Alaskan cliffs test the dogs teamwork prevailing to save Jack and Ted. Snow Dogs is a farewell to James Coburn adding a booming voice, a toothy smile, and a defacing snarl.
