Swimfan | Year: 2002 Directed: - John Polson Actors/Actresses: - Jesse Bradford - Erika Christensen as Madison Belle - Shiri Appleby Never Say "I Love You" to a Psycho Swimfan is not that bad - aside from the fact that the plot is in no way original, and the acting is not all that great. Anyone who has seen "Fatal Attraction" can skip Swimfan, because they've already seen it. Here's the plot in a nutshell: a super-talented high school boy, Ben, becomes the object of obsession for the new girl in school, Madison, who gets mad after they have a little rendezvous in the pool, and Ben tells her to get lost; that he loves his girlfriend Amy - not her. Ouch. Okay, before you start to sympathize with Madison, take into consideration that she is a complete nut case, and will do anything to make Ben hers. You can all guess what happens now. Swimfan is just another teen movie trying to pass itself off as a mature one, but the whole thing sinks pretty quickly. During every scene, we can predict what will happen in the next one - and it's no surprise. Despite what some "critics" supposedly have said, there are no suspenseful parts whatsoever, and you ultimately don't care what happens to any of the characters. (And I, personally, wondered why Madison was so obsessed with Ben in the first place.) The DVD is okay if you like the film - there are a handful of deleted scenes with the director's commentary option, director's commentary for the film itself, one little featurette, and the option of either full screen or widescreen. If you didn't like the film, none of these extra features will excite you in the least. I can't say I recommend this film to anyone, but I will say that, at less than an hour and a half, it held my slight interest up until the end - which is why I'm giving it two stars. But overall, this one deserves to sleep with the fishes. Predictably Entertaining Like the reviewer said Swimfan is Fatal Attraction for the teen set and it's so predictable you know exactly what the movie will entail within the first meeting of Madison Belle, played devilishy sweet by Erika Christenson. The plot goes like this. Boy meets girl, boy and girl have a one night stand, but boy has girlfriend, and girl goes psycho. Thats it in a nutshell, but the movie is a mere 85 minutes long, so things move along quickly and there are no unnescassay scenes. Jesse Bradford gives a convincing performance as Ben Cronin, the swimmer being stalked. While all the performances are good, including Shiri Appleby as Bens loving girlfriend, I would have liked to see the 2 actresses switch places. Shiri has such a sweet face and vulnerablity about her, and I think she could have potrayed the girl next door turned psycho role better. Overall, its a mindless fun. Sit back, laugh at some unintentionally funny dialogue, and enjoy. Freaky Movie This was a great movie. Very supenseful, and funny at certain parts. I was on the edge of my seat when Madison started doing all of that stuff to get Ben to like her again. I think that Ben should have never said "I love you" to her no matter what she said. Ericka gave a wonderful performance as Madison Bell and it was also very believeable that Ben would give into her. Jesse Bradford's performance was great too. Shiri Applesby was cool. I liked her character Amy. She would probably be a good girlfriend for any guy. Go see this movie. It's freaky and it'll keep you on the edge of your seat. Trust me, the images won't leave your mind.
