Good If Not Outstanding

One of the things about watching a Disney animation feature is thatBR>you have a pretty good idea of what to expect: the plots will be safeBR>as milk, noncontroversial, and the artwork / production values will beBR>silver or gold standard. That's what's expected of them, and theyBR>have no way of changing it.
DISNEY'S TARZAN fits that mold. Of course, the story is perfectly
BR>familiar, since it's been filmed so many times: a family is washedBR>ashore on a remote coast of Africa, with the parents losing theBR>struggle for survival and leaving behind a helpless infant boy. TheBR>boy is adopted by a troop of apes, and grows to manhood to become aBR>king of the jungle, swinging through the trees on vines. And then,BR>one day, his own sort of people appear in the jungle, including amongBR>their number a young woman named Jane.
This is a surprisingly durable story, and it clicks along as well as
BR>could be expected for its age. Of course, like I said, the story hasBR>to be basically safe, as well as slightly moralistic. This leads to aBR>running subplot about Tarzan's troubled relationship with his apeBR>"father" -- in this variant of the story, the apes are gorillas -- whoBR>refuses to accept him as his own, and of course, Tarzan's dealingsBR>with the humans, not all of whom are up to any good.
Anyway, this sort of thing is probably fine for kids, but most adults
BR>will find it predictable -- Tarzan will be reconciled with hisBR>"father" in the end, and the bad guys will get theirs. (Is thisBR>giving anything away? I think not.) The safe predictability beingBR>part of the ground rules for a Disney animation movie, this is noBR>cause for objection, but it does lead to the question of what there isBR>in the movie for the adult watcher.
Actually, a fair amount. The animation is typical Disney quality,
BR>meaning top or near top of the line. (Anime fans tend to knock DisneyBR>but almost any anime producer will weep in envy at the productionBR>quality and the resources it implies. Incidentally, I *am* an animeBR>fan.) There are visually clever bits, such as a first-person view ofBR>swinging through the jungle, basically a video sequence for aBR>virtual-reality thrill ride that might give a few watchers a littleBR>queasiness.
Another nice bit is that the real star of the show turns out to be
BR>Jane. These days, the tendency is to make the female charactersBR>two-fisted heroines, which admittedly is preferable to the helplessBR>damsels in distress of the old times, but it still gets tiresome.BR>Jane takes an endearing middle path: she's a proper English girl, butBR>she has an eccentric streak and a lot of curiosity: "Teach me how toBR>speak gorilla!" Of course she's a little quirky, what other kind ofBR>girl would fall for a jungle man swinging through the trees?
Last but not least, t

Tarzan DVD Review: Very awesome! Buy the CE version!

When I purchased this DVD, it was more to give myself a chance to see if I want to continue buying Disney DVD's. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy an animated story about Tarzan. Now, finally after watching the movie, all I can say is that this movie is awesome!
The colors are magnificent, the animation was definitely well done and the sound that will come out of your digital 5.1 system is great.
This DVD rocks! You also get the special bonus features such as Phil Collins "Strangers Like Me" music video, "Trashin' the Camp" with Phil and `NSync, a Tarzan interactive read along and and Interactive trivia game plus a sneak peak at the movie "Dinosaur". I was so amazed this DVD had any extras. I hope there will be a re-release of the other Disney animated movies via Collector's Edition because in the past they never or hardly put extras on their DVD's.
Now, I think I'm going to purchase the collector's edition DVD because although this DVD had many things to it, the collector's edition has over 250 minutes of extras and this movie is very cool! WOW!
I highly recommend this Disney animated film.

*****Wow!******

This is a great movie but its the kind that you can get a little tired of after a while. I didn't really care for Minnie Driver's voice for Jane Porter; it didn't fit somehow. And while the music in Trashin' the camp was differant from the rest of the soundtrack,it was refreshing and I thought it fit perfectly with the destruction of the camp.
BR> Phil Collins did a superb job with the music. I got goosebumps on several parts,he's that good. His singing voice just seems to fit with the wild jungle setting. All in all,a good movie.
