The 6th Day | Year: 2000 Classification: Science Fiction Directed: - Roger Spottiswoode Actors/Actresses: - Michael Rapaport - Robert Duvall - Sarah Wynter - Tony Goldwyn - Wendy Crewson - Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnie is back.. well, sort of STORY: I won't be very specific so here are the main details:Arnold Schwarzenegger is Adam Gibson. As he returns from work on his birthday he finds his family celebrating with a clone of his (unaware) and he wants to find out who's responsible at any costs. CAST: Well what can we say about Anie? Has he ever been convincing? Did we ever not laugh because of that charming Austrian accent of his. But he manages to give at least some credibility to his character. The supporting cast however is excellent. One has to mention Robert Duvall whose acting brings a lot of intensity to the film. SCRIPT: This is somewhat of an intelligent Action film because it opens a lot of questions about cloning and offers a great deal of hilarious black humor. Although the pointy finger and the family aspect seems a bit forced it is an exciting story with many different aspects to it. DIRECTION: Well here is the films major problem. Roger Spottiswood, whose Bond adventure "Tomorrow never dies" I didn't like very much opens the movie with a Football Game where he copies shots from Oliver Stone's "Any given Sunday". The action sequences in general are rather badly shot. The pace seems too slow and the fast editing confuses more than it creates tempo. There is some skip-framing which works pretty well but besides that the direction is really kind of clumsy and lacks originality and speed. Which is pretty tragic for an acionthriller. THE DVD: Since the film didn't gross very much, the DVD isn't filled with special features. There are some infomercials which are funny to look at but.. hey, that's not very interesting, is it? And then therte's the isolated score with commentary by composer Trevor Rabin. I do own the score CD and I absolutely adore it but Trevor talks during the cues and not only between them so you cannot really enjoy the music. ALL IN ALL: an entertaining Thriller, with great plot but average action sequences. Worth a look allright. The 6th Day THE 6TH DAY is a science-fiction action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold plays Adam Gibson, a professional helicopter pilot who has a loving wife and a daughter. The time period is "the near future," and there are laws that ban the concept of cloning human beings, but the cloning of animals and household pets is perfectly legal. The action and the fun begin when Adam Gibson comes home from a seemingly normal day of work on his birthday, and sees a clone of himself eating his birthday cake with his wife and daughter in his house. It seems that an evil corporation has illegally cloned Adam for reasons unknow to him, but Adam is very eager to find out, so he arms himself with some weapons and goes out to kick some human-cloning [butt]. This movie turned out to be way better than I expected, and I recommend it to all action and Arnold Schwarzenegger movie fans! "Total Recall" meets "I Robots" meet family friendly viewing Contrary to a lot of people's beliefs, this movie is not a rip on Total Recall, just merely along the same lines of internal conflict. People who have recently seen the outstanding "I Robot" will no doubt see where some of the inspiration came. Just as Will Smith is wary of the robots, Schwarzneggar's Adam character is wary of a pet-cloning company called RePet. The plot goes that the president of the most powerful cloning company is assasinated by anti-cloning radicals in a helicopter with Adam's friend, who was identified to be Adam. Because of this, the President and Adam are both cloned and Adam comes home to find his clone celebrating his own birthday through the window. Arnie then goes on a hunt to track down the cloning operation and get to the bottom of the huge mess that has been thrust into his life. Like "I Robot", the movie has a great amount of twists and turns, and like "Total Recall", Arnold wonders who he is (6th day- Am I a clone? Total Recall - is this real, or just part of the Recall program?) The movie is also fairly family friendly (save for a few violent but bloodless/suggestive scenes) and is PG-13, an absolute rarity for an Arnold action movie, especially considering the graphic and gratuitous violence of "Total Recall". Arnold also plays an average joe, not a killing maching like in "Commando", which is refreshing. Having said all that, this is a great rental movie for average viewers, and if you liked "I Robot" or "Total Recall" (or love Ah-nuld, hey, who doesn't? :-) then this is well worth the price of admission.
