A character driven science fiction movie

This was a completely good movie in almost every aspect. I don't understand what all the hubbuub is about, The Astronaut's Wife was not that bad a movie. Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron superbly portrayed their characters, right down to the smallest detail. Depp really shows how far his acting range can extend to. And Theron completely took me by surprise, she really steals the show. As for all the comparisons to Rosemary's Baby, they are few and very far between. The most apparent would be Theron's hair style which is a distant reminder of Mia Farrow. But from this man's point of view, this film completely stands on its own as original, entertaining, and thrilling. My only beef is the DVD itself, there aren't any special features included save a theatrical trailer and a few biographys. Although a director commentary and/or making of documentary would have been a nice bonus, the picture and sound are both a ten, and that is enough to satisfy me.
Just imagine, a character-driven science fiction. What's more, there are only two visual effects shots throughout the entire movie, which says something. One might say that the film budget was too low to allow it to become an effects movie. I disagree, though, because for what it lacked in effects the movie made up for in story, acting, directing, and script. Please watch this with an open mind, don't let all the critics sway you. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will believe and watch a movie based on what one or two people have said about it. Form your own opinions, not just for this movie but for all the others that have gotten a bad rap.

Astronaut's Descent...

This film borders on insulting its viewers; TOO PREDICTABLE ! From gorgeous Charlize Theron's character as a frantic Mia Farrow rip-off out of Rosemary's Baby to the unhinged agent "who knows too much" and is either exiled or killed, this film did indeed waste the talent of these incredible actors.Charlize Theron is one of the few truly gifted actresses of today who is amazing at being able to turn on the waterworks (for those who have seen the movie, no pun is intended for the later confrontation between wife and astronaut)at the drop of a pin ! Depp plays an equally arrogant and hostile malevolent character to a great degree ( almost like his somewhat similar character in this year's The Ninth Gate); Depp's character has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It takes no degree in any kind of science to figure out that what she is carrying as twins could be a "menacing" force and that her astronaut husband is "not quite himself" since returning from the space mission. Once the two hour hysterics and ludricous conclusion is over, the viewer feels cheated !

I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I watched this movie when it was on TV one night. This was when I hadn't even heard the bad reviews. After it was done I just sat there. Ususally, I can tell I really like a movie by the way it sticks with me. Throughout the whole week, I couldn't stop thinking about it and I knew I had to get it.The acting was fantastic. Sure the plot was well..stupid. But I can't really take any movie with aliens seriously. The reason it only recieved 4 stars was because the ending was awful. I really hate it when a great movie is ruined by the ending. But, what are you going to do? If you are a Johnny Depp fan then you will enjoy this movie. Like I said, the acting was great, the mood was suspenseful and it really stuck w
