A REVIEW FROM A DIEHARD FAN

My wife and I saw the Eagles in one of their Hell Freezes Over concerts in East Troy, Wisconsin a few years back. This by far was the greatest concert we've ever attended! They pumped out nearly 3 hours of non-stop music. I've watched the DVD and right off the bat I became annoyed with the constant fading in and out of the performers. Don't get me wrong the video is flawless and the lighting is great. There were many camera angles which added to the experience, but I just wished the producer's didn't fade in and out on the performers as much as they did. You don't get a chance to lock in on any one musician for more that 2 seconds or so. I, as others have stated, don't understand why the DVD wasn't released with Dolby 5.1. I don't have DTS, but probably will in the future, so I guess I don't feel cheated as do others and I knew going into the purchase that it didn't have Dolby 5.1. The sound is great even in the PCM stereo mode. All in all, this is an excellent DVD for any Eagle's fan collection.

Must Have for your collection ...

Among other tracks, this DVD has Hotel California, Tequila Sunrise, The Girl from Yesterday, New York Minute, The Last Resort, Take It Easy and Desperado. I enjoy these the most. This DVD is the most excellently produced DVD in my collection. The video and audio quality are outstanding. When played on a DTS capable receiver, you are "immersed" music. You can hear the twang of the guitar-strings, the beats of the drums and the vocals from distinct speaker channels. As one piece rolls off to the other, you can hear the audience claps and whistles in the background come through the rear-speakers. The home theatre experience is awesome. This DVD has no drawbacks at all. Own it ! NOW !!
If you have a dts decoder in your receiver or on your DVD player, don't forget to select the dts option. If your receiver is not dts capable, don't worry - the DVD is worth buying, regardless.

Set the standard for music DVDs..

The soundstage setting suits the acoustic sound and harmonies to a tee, as well as some "behind the scenes" footage. A lot of people use this as a "demo" to show off their entertainment system, and the intimate setting-style comes across in your living room loud and clear.
Drawbacks: If you've been to an Eagles concert, the dynamic is very different and the shows are far more energetic. The amount of material they do during the shows (post 1994) covers the solo and band era, which covered a lot of territory, and came to about 3 hours. I'm sure that as with Fleetwood Mac, there will be a DVD of the "Farewell I" tour. But the Hell Freezes Over video is about 100 minutes.
Hopefully, they can put out a vintage era video collection that has some of the early 70s BBC and Don Kirshner footage as well as the more familiar footage from "Hotel California" and "The Long Run" promos they've shown on TV in the past.
