The Money Pit | Year: 1986 Classification: Comedy Country: USA Language: English Directed: - Richard Benjamin Actors/Actresses: - Tom Hanks - Shelley Long - Alexander Godunov Needs to be released on DVD!! I always come back to this movie after a few years of not having seen it, and it's fresh and funny every time! One of my all time favorite comedies, if you like the old slapstick stuff from the 30's, you should like this. What the heck happened to Tom Hanks? He used to be a hysterical comedy actor, as this movie showcases. He's become Mr. Serious, and frankly, pretty boring. I prefer him in these light comedy roles. One of the best comedies ever done This is one of these movies you shouldn't trust critics' opinions. It's one of the best comedies ever done, and contrary to most of new silly ones, this movie will make you laugh on the floor every time you see it. It's classic humor, performed by excellent actors. Tom Hanks was at his best ever, I've never seen this guy so funny before or after this movie, he's a consumate genius. His reactions to the otherwise tragical situation are astonishing and show how well he understood the character. For me, Tom Hanks performance in this movie is a reference of how a part like this should be acted. I hope the producers publish a DVD version. I'm sure there are more unedited material that will be great to include. These actors sure had big laughs during the production, and would be great if this material is available to share it with us. I applaud the actors, directors and producers of this masterpiece. home blech home! Tom Hanks and Shelly Long star in this 1980s Steven Spielberg movie as Walter and Anna, a Manhattan couple who are unceremoniously evicted from her ex-husband's apartment and must search for new housing. They find what seems to be a steal -- a huge million-dollar mansion for next to nothing --- and move in, only to be besieged with a collapsing staircase, chocolate-brown "water", rotting wood, exploding doorbell, you name it. Probably one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen is when Tom Hanks sinks through the rug into a hole in the den floor and gets stuck. Broke and cranky from sinking more and more resources into the money pit in which they live, Anna and Walter snipe at each other. The shady contractors they hire say they can get the job done in 2 weeks -- and continue saying that four months later. The house may or may not get rebuilt, but will Walter and Anna survive as a couple? Being a typical 1980s comedy which paved the way for everything starring Meg Ryan for 16 years, you already know the answer. But it is still a hilarious movie to watch, depsite its predictability.
