This Nightmare On Elm St Collection is Amazing!

This Nightmare On Elm Street Collection is Amazing! I own both the DVD Collection and VHS Collection. The DVD set is way better due to the many extras found on the bonus disc titled The Nightmare Encyclopedia which has all 7 Movie Previews that were shown in theatres, it also has Music Videos including DOKKEN's "Dream Warriors". It has a interactive game called The Labyrinth which is very hard, if you have a DVD-Rom you get even more extras like all 7 Screenplays and an interactive Freddy that haunts your PC courtesy of Togglethis.com. What can I say you get so much more! All the Movies are in the best Quality ever with the exception of the bad film transfer of Nightmare 2! As far as my personal review of each film I give Nightmare 1 five stars, Nightmare 2 two stars, Nightmare 3 five stars, Nightmare 4 four stars, Nightmare 5 two stars, Nightmare 6 two stars, and than Nightmare 7 Wes Cravens New Nightmare five stars. I have to also say NANCY who is played by Heather Langenkamp brought this whole collection to life with her roles in Nightmare 1, Nightmare 3, and Wes Cravens new Nightmare. Without NANCY who we were all so familiar with from the start, this collection would not be so Good. I also give a big thanks to Wes Craven for taking the laughs out of Freddy and taking him back to what he was in the original Nightmare 1, a Horror Icon not a comedian! I highly encourage anyone to buy this collection! The DVD set is truly amazing for any Nightmare On Elm Street fan!

Superb presentation of a classic, if inconsistent series.

"The Nightmare on Elm Street Collection"
This is perhaps as good as DVD collections get. The box set is very nicely packaged, with all seven films from the series presented in their original aspect ratios with clean, crisp transfers on each. While most of the sequels lack any special features, the first film has been given better attention. One minor quibble is that the commentary included is simply the one recorded for the 1995 Laserdisc version, although given that this was just post-New Nightmare, it is current enough.
One major plus in this collection is the bonus disc, the Nightmare Encyclopedia. Packed with interview segments with all six directors (Craven directed two) and a few other industry figures (including Clive Barker), the bonus material is offered either by a film-by-film index or as part of an interesting labyrinth puzzle game. You must explore the maze, picking up certain objects while avoiding Freddy, and occasionally unlock extra bonus material you can't find any other way (the first time I did this I found the Dokken music video from Nightmare 3 which was cool).
Also included for the completists are two pairs of 3D glasses for viewing the 3D sequence at the end of Freddy's Dead. But don't worry if the glasses don't seem to work for the whole sequence because it never worked to begin with. Some of it is great - mostly the stuff shot the old-fashioned way with a two camera set-up - while a lot of it will give you a headache - most of this was simulated 3D done in the computer and it doesn't work. Never mind, it's still a fun addition to an otherwise great box set.
Of the seven films, most fans tend to agree that the 1st, 3rd and 7th films are the strongest - incidentally the ones written and/or directed by Craven and starring Heather Langenkamp as Nancy - but it's still nice to have the whole series here together.

Great Packaging of the Series

Each DVD in this set has special features and the like. All movies have similair menu formats meaning that they were designed for the set, which makes it consistant and enjoyable. There is even an extra DVD full of special features inclucing, interviews with freddy, music videos, cast and crew, and even Clive Barker himself. There is this cool way to find all sorts of hidden facts and videos in an interactive way. You control you way through a dark maze and solve riddles and unlock doors. Really great set!
