In this later movie, he plays a web-footed loner who seeks dry land as a sort of gritty Holy Grail. Costner as the Postman again was the loner, but this time he embodies a stirring rebirth of hope that his female lead Olivia Williams says, that he 'dispenses like candy... The film glorifies in an unabashed way the virtues of the good old USA in a manner that had been often pilloried and ridiculed as the politically correct version of patriotism--at least until 9-11.
