Quality is a bit disappointing...

I've owned a VHS copy of this film for 20 years or so and was eager to replace it with a DVD. I'd hoped for better quality than this. On the other hand, the optional running commentary by historian Dr. Anthony R. Santoro is worth the price of admission. If you want to understand the evil that was Adolf Hitler and Naziism, you gotta go to the original source material and this is the Real Deal. This is how Hitler and his people wanted the world to see them and, given the perspective of history, it's far more revealing than they could have known at the time.
No wonder than Frank Capra borrowed heavily from Triumph of the Will when he wanted to show the sinister aspect of the Nazis in his "Why We Fight" series of films for the U.S. armed forces.
If you're serious about history or film (or the history of film), this DVD belongs in your collection.

An Awesome Spectacle

"Triumph of the Will", shot by a woman way ahead of her time- Reifenstahl- is actual footage of Adolf Hitler and his masses of orderly followers as they put on displays of power. There is also footage of Hitler giving speeches, in which we ascertain the immediacy and contagiousness of his leadership, as well as his slight femininity (watch how he pushes his hair away from his forehead). More than a historical relic of invaluable worth, this film also captures the pure propaganda tools Hitler employed- massive banners, uniforms, swastikas, huge lines of orderly troops (most of them just out of their teens), great processions and the stern face of the demagogue himself. If you pay close attention you will notice than in a few scenes Hitler's army are marching with shovels instead of rifles. This is because Germany was still abiding by an allied ban enforced against them carrying tools of war- but how interesting that even without them, they carried forth in full formation. Of course when they did again obtain real weapons, they marched on to many victories before their ultimate military defeats. This film is truly an eye-opener of the power and charisma of Hitler and of th

Additionally, in 1944 it was still unknown for certain what was results of the Torpedo Bombers attack. It wasn't until after the war that it was learned what actually happened. Although it is true that the Torpedo Bombers didn't get hits on the Japanese Carriers, the real point is that the TBF Squadrons took nearly 75% casualties in this battle, that if it wasn't for those brave men who gave the

As a responsible clerk of a local video store, I have taken it upon myself to view each and every anime title that we have for rent for the fans who frequent the store. M.D. Geist, however, was such an utter waste of time that I began to reconsider my well-intentioned policy.
Simply put, the main character of M.D. Geist (the M.D., by the way, stands for "Most Dangerous" ... how's that for cheesy?) is psychopathic, homicidal, insane, misogynistic, and worst of all, has a penchant for lines that would ma

While there were problems, the good outweighed the bad in this season. The mythology episodes continued to be superb, especially "Two Fathers"/"One Son," a two-parter which essentially brings cl
