The name Vengaboys was thought up during a recording session for 'Nakatomi', a previous project of Wessel Van Diepen, where many times the word 'benga' was repeated. As in Spanish the V is pronounced as a B. So Vengaboys is pronounced as Bengaboys. Driving forces behind the Vengaboys were the producers Dennis van den Driesschen (DJ Danski) and Wessel van Diepen (Delmundo). The original Band consisted of the Dancers Kim, Denise, Roy, Robin. They started performing in illegal house parties in 1995 in Spain. In 1997 there commercial success started with two smaller hits "Parada De Tettas" and "Brazil". In the beginning nobody knew who this mysterious new group was. There was a rumour about 2 DJ's (Dj Danski and Delmundo) and four dancers touring in an old school bus. Later it appeared that it was the new project of the Dutch DJ's Wessel Van Diepen en Dennis Van Den Driesschen. In 1997 they scored a big hit all around the world with "Up And Down". This hit was followed by many others, including "We Like To Party", "Boom Boom Boom Boom" and "We're Going To Ibiza", which was a number one hit in the United Kindom and The Netherlands. The basis of all their songs were nice and catchy melodies combined with dance beats and lyrics about parties and having fun. Their music could be classified as Eurobeat. In 1999 Robin was replaced by Yorrick. In 2002 Denise and Yorick left the band. They were replaced by Mark and Lilly. It seems that the last performance was given in 2004. They have sold more than 10 million singles and 5 million copies of the album "Vengaboys" worldwide. This makes the Vengaboys the most successful Dutch band ever and even exceeding sales of the Dutch techno band 2 Unlimited. Their dance hits are still frequently played in clubs all around the world.
