Wild Things | Description: Who has raped the wealthy student Kelly Van Ryan Year: 1998 Classification: Thriller Country: USA Language: English Directed: - John McNaughton Actors/Actresses: - Kevin Bacon - Neve Campbell - Matt Dillon - Denise Richards - Daphne Rubin Vega - Robert Wagner - John Mcnaughton - Kavin Bacon Peek -A- Boo Wild Things is a film that certainly lives up to its title. Matt Dillon, plays a guidance counselor, who is accused of rape by two of his students. Denise Richards, a spoiled rich girl, and Neve Campbell, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, play the victims. But in this movie, not all things. are as they seem. Kevin Bacon plays the Detective who is determined to find out what really happened... Directed by John McNaughton, the movie will keep you guessing, until the very end. Sex, murder, and money all play a role in how everything unfolds . The film may border on high camp at times and all that. But I maintain that is one reason to like the film. It still draws you in and makes you want to know how it will end. Many people compare this movie to Basic Instinct, while I would say that is sort of justified, Wild Things can stand on its own too. Also of note in the film is actor Bill Murray. who is great, as Dillon's Defense Lawyer. Just who is scamming who in this sexy thriller, I wont say, but I think you wont be disappointed. I liked the original version of the film and its intitial release on DVD, and even though I know that the only reason the unrated cut is out, is to capitalize on the direct to video sequel, I couldn't resist taking a gander anyway. The highlight of the alternate cut gives viewers an extended "swimming pool" scene with Richards and Campbell. Things get a bit more steamy in the pool. While the controversial motel room sequence is not extended, the rest of the eight minutes really only advances the plot itself, and can be found on the previous disc in the deleted scenes section. The only other extra on the DVD is the film's theatrical trailer. I would advise that if you already own the previous version of Wild Things, you shouldn't replace it with this unrated cut...rent it instead. If you don't own the film, buy the prior release. It has a great commentary track as part of its bonus material to enjoy. No matter which version you decide to see, just be sure to watch out for any aligators, otherwise, they will eat you alive... Well, the title doesn't lie... Wild Things is a bit of an odd one really, as there's no easy way to define it - it's got sex, corruption, murder, comedy, camp value - but there is one word which sums it up nicely. Entertaining. The story is hilariously over the top, with double cross after double cross and sudden sharp turns in the plot, but it's not meant to be taken seriously. The real star is Bill Murray, who plays it deadpan (as normal) as a shyster lawyer and nearly steals the show. It really is great fun, and any film that has Denise Richards naked can't be all bad. The commentary is genial enough (although during the threesome scene they all sound like naughty schoolboys who are watching a porno...), but don't be enticed by the 'Deleted Scenes' - only one is of any substance, and I'd guess they last about two minutes. Don't know why they bothered. By the way, DO NOT watch the trailer before the film, it gives away the first plot twist of the movie which is never helpful. Definitely worth buying, but don't expect Shakespeare, because this is just meant to be glossy entertainment and it passes that test with flying colours. With enough surprises to put The Usual Suspects to shame, this is a great film which deserves your full attention. Keeps you guessing ...that's for sure! This movie really does keep you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you don't and are very far from the truth. It has so many twists in the plot that you really do have to pay close attention to it the first time you watch it or you will miss something vital to understanding the ending. I liked it mainly because I thought I had it figured out but when the end came I was totally wrong. I enjoy movies that are unpredictable, which this one most definitely is. The movie is cast well. It includes Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Kevin Bacon, Denise Richards, and even Bill Murrey. I think as far as casting goes the actors were prefct for the parts. Matt and Kevin play somewhat bad guys, which don't they usually. Neve Campbell plays a strange girl from the wrong side of the tracks and just nails the part. I like this movie and would recommend it to those that like a good ending and maybe some of you that want to see Neve Campbell making out with Denise Richards. Not my favorite part, but I know many guys would enjoy that scene.
