Best satire since Wayne's World

Zoolander is going to go down in history as a cult-classic. You'll either love or you'll hate. The comedy is foolish and stupid like Wayne's World, yet you can't help but fall on the floor laughing. Directed and starring Ben Stiller, an actor and director who is bound to bloom over the next 5 years, this movie has shown the diverse nature of Stiller. Ususually cast in awkward, tongue-twisted men who always set fire to the screen, Zoolander (a nim-witted, gorgeous fashion model) gets hyponitized to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Zoolander pokes fun at the fashion industry, models, and government conspiracy theories. Don't take the movie seriously, and don't expect mature comedy. This movie allows you to laugh at the simple things. Stiller's father, Jerry Stiller, plays the head of Balls Models, the man behind the conspiracies. Stiller's mother and sister are also cast in smaller roles. I suggest buying the DVD, the extra features are even funnier than the movie.

Funniest movie of the year. Hilarious!

I'm usually not the type to laugh out-loud in a theater, but this movie made me do just that. Ben Stiller is very funny, or maybe just the writing was funny. Either way, you'll get a kick out of it. It's got some pretty out-of-nowhere jokes that really work ' breakdance fighting, the 'walk-off', and the 'Derek Zoolander Center for Kids who Don't Read Good and Want to Do Other Stuff Good Also'. The commercials did give away some of the good jokes (like those I just mentioned), but unlike a lot of movie's I've seen, there are plenty left to merit going to see.
Will Ferrell plays the fashion mogul Mugatu ' a great character who's hair sometime out-performs his acting. Owen Wilson is Hansel, Zoolander's competition for Male Model of the Year. I liked him in Meet the Parents and thought he was just as good in this. David Duchovny makes an appearance, but it's just what they show in the commercials. There are cameo appearances by a few other celebrities including Fabio and Lenny Kravitz.
Well worth the night out.

THREE AND A HALF STARS!!

I laughed alot in this movie as it was so hysterically funny. Between the take-offs from other movies, to the "Wham" scene with the roommates, and Derek Zoollander's stupidity, I was continously laughing and have a great time at this movie.
It's about a very dim-witted male model, Derek Zoollander, played with great comedic talent and timing by Ben Stiller. He's programmed by an evil fashion designer, played by Will Ferrell of SNL fame, to assinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Owen Wilson, who I absolutely love in everything I've seen him in, plays Hansel, the new male model and competition for Zoollander. They are both totally stupid but funny at the same time. Are male models really this stupid? I definitely think this movie goes a little over the top with it's comedy, but it's a great vehicle for Stiller and Wilson. There are many cameos by other actors and actresses. David Duchovny, of X-Files, does a cameo of a washed up hand model. You won't recognize him, but his voice gives him away. Now for the romantic interest, which was kind of lame. Christine Taylor, who played Marcia in the Brady Bunch movies, is a reporter, who is trying to help save Zoollander from the evil doings of Ferrells' character.(I can not recall his name) She and Zoollander, who are married in real life, develop into something.
The ending of the movie is what brought my grade to a 3 1/2 stars as opposed to 5 stars. It was very lame, I feel that it could've been better executed. But in a nutshell, I would recommend it for a zany day of laugh filled movie viewing.
While the comedy in this film was extremely zany and over the top, one should just go with the flow and have fun at this movie.
My husband took it way too seriously. I myself was a little disappointed at the ending of it, but all in all, it was a great time at the movies because I haven't laughed that much at one in a long time.
I have been a fan of his since his show, and I like all his movies. I did like this movie alot!!! and other Stiller fans will appreciate it too.

Excruciatingly Funny

I am still laughing about this movie, even though I saw it several days ago! I have never seen a film that makes simple-mindedness, male modeling and the fashion industry so entertaining. BR>This is easily Ben Stiller's most hilarious offering. Through mind-numbingly idiotic international male supermodel Derek Zoolander, Stiller both skewers and winks at the world's modeling/fashion industry.BR>The plot: As the Malaysian Prime Minister prepares to raise wages for his country's impoverished workers, the powerful fashion magnates who rely on cheap labor prepare to strike back. Fashion designer Mugatu is ordered to dispose of the prime minister via an extremely dimwitted patsy, who comes along in the form of Derek Zoolander. BR>Zoolander becomes the perfect candidate when he looses VH1's Male Model Of The Year Award to archrival Hansel (Owen Wilson), and becomes disillusioned with the fashion industry. But, that's nothing an orange flavored coffee drink cant fix! Life is like a video for Zoolander, whether carousing with similarly dimwitted friends, working in a coal mine or facing down archrivals in back-alley 'walk-offs'. BR>Words cannot describe the entertainment value of seeing Derek Zoolander, male supermodel, working in a coal mine with his father (jon Voight), played strangely like Christopher Walken. I almost fell off the couch.BR>There are few genuinely smart characters in this film, but their presences only serve to make the rediculous heroes (and villains) more hilarious. Christina Taylor plays Zoolander's love interest, an intellectual reporter with Time magazine who finds out about the plot to destroy the Malaysian P.M. Jerry Stiller plays the soft-hearted owner of Balls Models, a reluctant participant in Mugatu's scheme. Finally, Saturday Night Live's outrageous Will Ferrell plays Mugatu, the evil fashion designer who programs Zoolander to do the dirty deed. I don't understand how any of the cast made this movie-I would not have been able to keep a straight face.BR>Most of the extras in this film are, were or can be associated with the modeling/fashion/entertainment industry. Some are mentioned by name, but you can catch others if you are careful and knowledgeable about such things.BR>There is not enough space to gush about this movie. This is a simply a piece of comedic brilliance that should be seen to be believed.
